If you love collages you’ll love the new Instagram Layout mode for stories!

Announced in December, the feature is a game-changer for those who like to get creative with collages on Instagram Stories.

Collages were one of the hottest Instagram design trends of 2019, but until now, they had to be made outside of the Instagram app.

But that’s all changed now! Here’s everything you need to know about Layout, Instagram’s new collage-maker for stories:

How to Use the New Instagram Layout Mode

When you open Instagram Stories’ Layout mode (you’ll find it at the bottom of your camera, next to other modes like Boomerang and Superzoom), you’ll be prompted to snap a number of photos or you can upload them directly from your camera roll (6 total).

You can also tap the layout you like best from the center of the screen (there are several layout options available to pick from):

Once you’re happy, tap the checkmark button and proceed to add any other design elements, like text, tags, filters, emojis, drawings, GIFs, and more.

And that’s it! Now you can either share your layout or save it to your camera roll for later.

Why You Should be Posting Instagram Collages

A lot of popular Instagram trends start with influencers, and collages are no different.

But while collages were super popular in 2019 (a trend that’s set to continue in 2020), there was no way to create them in the Instagram app – you had to use a separate app to create them.

This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it led to a bunch of cool collaborations between brands and collage apps, like when Tommy Hilfiger partnered with Unfold to release their own collage templates:

Or when Revolve collaborated with the StoryLuxe app to create special collage templates for Coachella:

Popular Instagram trends start with influencers, and collages are no different.

This clearly hasn’t gone unnoticed by Instagram. The new Layout mode makes it so much easier for brands (and regular users) to jump on the trend and share their own collages on Instagram Stories!

What do you think of the new Instagram Layout mode? Will you be sharing collages on Instagram Stories in 2020?
